Guangzhou Information / First visit in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is provincial capital of Guangdong province, it is a political, economic, and cultural center of Guangdong Province. Located at the south of China, north of Pearl River Delta, it is called “ China southern Gate”. It covers area of about 7,434 square km, with more than 16 million population ( half of populations are migrants)

Guangzhou is called “ Flower City”, because annual average temperature is about 22 degrees Celsius, flowers can been seen all the year round. The city is very green. Winter falls on December to February ( the coldest is about 4- 8 with high humidity). Summer season is from June to September ( the hottest is about 34-38 ℃). Best traveling time should be from October to December, cool and comfortable.


Guangzhou subway covers more than 260KM ( 9 lines are operating now, soon in 3 years, subway will cover about 500KM). Subway can be very crowded at rush hours ( Morning 7-9AM, Evening 6-8PM, try to avoid this mess). But subway is the most convenient way to move around in the city without worrying about traffic jam.

Many tourists stop over here on their way to HongKong. People can easily take a speed train at guangzhou EAST railway station ( 2 hours ) to reach to HongKong. And 1hours 20mins train from guangzhou east railway station to Shenzhen city.

For hotels, you may want to stay at somewhere close to city center and easy to shop around. Areas will be: Yuexiu District or Tianhe District. Many foreigners prefer to stay at hotels at HuanShi East Roads, there are plenty good shops, restaurant and bars where you can meet friends from different places of the world. There are also many nice hotels near to the east railway station. If you prefer somewhere quite and green, you can also consider hotels on Shamian island ( used to be colonial place so all nice buildings on island are western styles. )

The diaolou of Kaiping are fortified multi-storey towers, built by returning Chinese immigrants. They display a fusion of Chinese and Western decorative forms. The towers were constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, when there were more than 3,000 of these structure.
